You are buying a vehicle, a driver and a guarantee about time. On paper every transfer looks identical; the difference is whether the operator tracks the flight, what the vehicle actually is, and what happens when you land three hours late.

Distance, vehicle class and dead legs. A one-way transfer that leaves the vehicle 200 km from base is priced as a return, which is why an airport run in the wrong direction costs more than the map suggests.

Ask for the passenger transport licence and the passenger liability insurance limit. In Italy, ask specifically about NCC authorisation; unlicensed transfer operators are common at airports and have no insurance cover for you.

Assuming a private transfer includes waiting time. Free waiting is usually 45–60 minutes from the landing time; after that it is chargeable, and after two hours some operators release the vehicle entirely.

Transportation covers transfers, car, yacht, and within that the quality gap is wider than the price gap. Two companies quoting within 10% of each other can differ entirely in whether the service is operated in-house or subcontracted to whoever is available that week.

Algarve villa quality varies enormously within a few hundred metres of the same beach. Operators that have physically inspected stock are the difference between a good week and a poor one.

Ask what happens if the tightest connection in your plan fails, and listen for a specific answer rather than a reassuring one. Ask what is deliberately not included in the price. Ask when the quote expires and why — a release period is a real deadline from a supplier, not a sales tactic, though it is sometimes used as one.

In Portugal, one thing to raise specifically: treating the Azores as a day trip from Lisbon. Inter-island flights are limited and weather-dependent, and a two-night Azores add-on regularly turns into three.

The ranking model uses destination coverage, service category, party size, budget band and current response performance. Companies that answer quickly and get chosen see more volume; companies that leave requests unanswered see less, whatever they pay. Those inputs are published rather than hidden, because a marketplace that conceals its ranking rules ends up selling them.
